Getting Started with After Effects Scripting (Salon A)
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
<a href="/speakers/#mohl" target="_blank" class="speakerlink">Mathias Möhl</a>
Speakers

You want to work more efficiently with After Effects and automate tedious, repeating tasks? This session gets you started with After Effects scripting - even if you didn’t ever do any programming before. Scripting allows you to automate almost everything in After Effects - from importing footage, over manipulating comps and layers to rendering. As an example, we use a sports template, which shows some player stats and images. We write a script that customizes and renders the template once for each player, based on data in an external file.

COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH BUFFET

Introduction to Cinema 4D. From Lite to Studio in a Blink (Salon A)
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
<a href="/speakers/#pozantzis" target="_blank" class="speakerlink">Athanasios Pozantzis</a>

In this session, we will learn 3D, with Cinema 4D Lite and Studio. We will go over the fundamentals of the 3D world, Coordinates Systems and Hierarchies, Objects and Generators, Modeling and Deforming, Lights, Cameras and Materials, and then switch to Cinema 4D R20 Studio, to get a taster of the power of the best Motion Graphics 3D software in the universe. This session is aimed at the absolute 3D beginner, that already has Adobe After Effects CC, and wants to start using 3D in their workflow, by learning the basics, and exploring the potential of 3D Motion Graphics with C4D Studio. NOTE: the difference between the sessions, is that the first one gives more details about what and how we can do things in C4D Lite, while the second one, shows an overview of C4D Lite, and then dazzles the audience with the potential of the Studio Version. As far as I know, Maxon is sponsoring the event, therefore it seems more beneficial to them to do the second one.

Trip to Universal Studios
4:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Ride Universal’s world class attractions, and then meet fellow attendees and speakers at a bar for a drink and networking.

During the last few years, After Effects has grown from a simple software program into an ever-evolving motion graphics ecosystem. New features are being added each quarter and it's getting hard to keep up. In this session I’ll share a handful of tricks and techniques that will help to catch up and reveal undocumented tools, effects and shortcuts that will blow you away.

Character Animation Made Simple in Cinema 4D
10:15 am - 11:30 am
<a href="/speakers/#hassenfratz" target="_blank" class="speakerlink">E.J. Hassenfratz</a>
Speakers

Character animation doesn’t need to be difficult! In this session, we’ll begin by getting a brief intro to basic IK rigging concepts and progress to how to create different types of fast, easy, and stable rigging techniques that’ll get your characters and objects rigged without all the complexity that dominates traditional rigging. Workflow tips and tricks to rigging up characters, eyes, mouths, adding secondary animation, and covering essential tools to streamline and even automate character animation! If you’re looking to get into character rigging and animation, you won’t want to miss this session!

<a href="/speakers/#korenman" target="_blank" class="speakerlink">Joey Korenman</a>
Speakers

If you know After Effects inside and out but still can't make your work look beautiful, the problem won't be solved by learning more software tricks. You need to get back to the fundamentals and learn some of the principles of Design that live behind all great work. In this session, you'll get a crash course in some of the most important design concepts for AE artists, and you'll be able to start using them on your very next project.

Using Master Properties for Generative Art
11:45 am - 1:00 pm
<a href="/speakers/#clay" target="_blank" class="speakerlink">Joe Clay</a>

Master properties is a huge addition to After Effects. Being able to have one comp that can spit out variations for things like lower thirds is amazing, especially if you don’t like a cluttered file. But this also means something else. In this session, we’ll discover how we can use code to generate an infinite number of comps and open up a whole new world for mograph artists.

How do you run a motion design business as a freelancer, solopreneur or multi-person studio? How do you set clear, specific goals and create an action plan to achieve them? What kind of goals will inspire, drive and compel you to achieve them? What are the rules of engagement as they pertain to prospecting, bidding, pitching, booking, billing and budgeting? I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned over the last 23 years running a motion design studio in the talk and open format discussion. Bring your biggest business challenges.

Unless we're a permanent part of a larger team, too many of us can often feel like we have to do it all alone - often to the detriment of our projects and ourselves. In this session, we'll explore project case studies and lessons learned from my years as a freelancer to discuss the benefits (and yes, pitfalls) of collaborating with other artists; including tips for coordination and communication, sharing projects, leveraging one another's strengths, and helpful tools that can help make remote/online collaborations run more smoothly.
